Affirmative Sentence.
The present perfect continuous tense is used to link the past action with the present. It is used to show that an action that began in the past is continuing to the present time.
- We use the present perfect continuous tense to denote a repeated or uninterrupted action. We do not use this tense when we mention the number of times an action is done.
Example–
He has been asking me to lend him my pen
Subject+Has/Have+Been+Verb(first form)+ing+Object+Since/For+Time.
Examples-
- He has been reading the newspaper for two hours.
- I have been waiting for this book since Monday.
- They have been writing an essay since ten o’clock.
- Note-We use Has with singular nouns.{see example NO.1}
and Have with I and plural nouns.{see example NO.2}
- How to use Since and For?
We use Since and For to mention the time.
SINCE is used when time mentioned in the sentence is Certain..{see example NO.2 & 3}
FOR is used when time mentioned in the sentence is not Certain..{see example NO.1}
Certain Time=> 3 o’clock,10 AM,Sunday,June,2019,Yesterday,Tomorrow,Morning,Birth etc.
Duration=> Two hours,Four months,Five years, etc.
Negative Sentence
Subject+Has/Have+Not+Been+Verb(first form)+ing+Object+Since/For+Time.
Examples-
- He has not been reading the newspaper for two hours.
- I have not been waiting for this book since Monday.
- They have not been writing an essay since ten o’clock.
Interrogative Sentence
Has/Have+Subject+Not+Been+Verb(first form)+ing+Object+Since/For+Time.
Examples-
- Has he not been reading the newspaper for two hours?
- Have I been waiting for this book since Monday?
- Have they been writing an essay since ten o’clock?
Main Interrogative Sentence
Question Word+Has/Have+Subject+Not+Been+Verb(first form)+ing+Object+Since/For+Time.
Examples-
- Why has he not been reading the newspaper for two hours?
- Where have I been waiting for this book since Monday?
- How have they been writing an essay since ten o’clock?

Neha and Riya are best friends. They have been spending time together since they were young girls. Every morning, they get dressed and walk to the post office together. They have been walking together to the post office every morning for the past 10 years.
Lately, Riya has not been feeling well. Neha has been walking to the post office alone each morning. Then she visits Riya at home. She has been bringing Riya her mail every morning for 2 weeks. She hopes Riya feels better soon.
