Learn passive Voice Imperative Sentences|CBSE|UP Board|Grammar and Literature

Passive voice means that a subject is a recipient of a verb’s action. You may have learned that the passive voice is weak and incorrect, but it isn’t that simple. When used correctly and in moderation, the passive voice is fine.

To transform an imperative sentence into passive voice apply the below rules.

  • Add Let in the starting of the sentence 
  • Write Object [given in the sentence] after Let.
  • Then write Be.
  • After writing Be write the third form of the verb.

Structure of imperative Sentence in Passive Voice

Affirmative Sentence

 Let+Object+Be+third form of the verb.

Examples-

  1. Write a letter. [Active Voice.]
  • Let a letter be written. [Passive Voice]

Negative Sentence

 Let+Object+Not+Be+third form of the verb.

Examples-

  1. Do not write a letter. [Active Voice.]
  • Let a letter not be written. [Passive Voice]

If in an imperative sentence if there is Please then,we transform it according to the following rules.

  • You are requested to+verb+object.
  1. Please bring a glass of water. [Active Voice.]
  • You are requested to bring a glass of water. [Passive Voice]
  • In negative sentences we use Not after requested.

Example-

  1. Please do not smoke. [Active Voice.]
  • You are requested not to smoke. [Passive Voice]
  • If in the imperative sentences there is a sense of Order or Advice we use Ordered and Advised in place of Requested.
  1. Take the medicine timely. [Active Voice.]
  • You are advised to take the medicine timely. [Passive Voice]

Transform the following sentences into Passive Voice.

  1. Do your work timely.
  2. Respect everyone.
  3. Please bring a chair for me.
  4. Open the door.
  5. Stop this singing and dancing.
  6. Please help the needy.
  7. Wear your mask properly.
  8. Please call all the students here.
  9. Tell a story to the children every night.
  10. Call the fire brigades.
  11. Do not smoke near the petrol pump.
  12. Do not use your mobile during meetings.
  13. Please do not make the noise here.
  14. Do not insult anyone.
  15. Do not leave your seat.
  16. Do not leave anyone helpless.
  17. Please respect your elders.
  18. Take the medicine with hot milk.
  19. Do not kill the animals.
  20. Please do not tell this secret to anyone in the class.

From Passive Voice to Active Voice.

We can change an Imperative Sentence from Passive Voice to Active Voice by applying the following rules-

We remove Let and Be from the sentence.

Example:-

  1. Let your book be bought.[Passive Voice]
  • Bring your book.[Active Voice]

We write the first form of the Verb at the starting of the Sentence.

Verb [First Form] + Object …….

Example- 

  1. Let the door be opened.[Passive Voice]
  • Open the door.[Active Voice]

In a Negative Sentence we write Do not + Verb [First Form] + Object…….

Example- 

  1. Let the window not be closed.[Passive Voice]
  • Do not close the window.[Active Voice]

If there is You are requested in the starting of the sentence we remove it and write Please + Verb [First Form] + Object…..

Example- 

  1. You are requested to bring a chair.[Passive Voice]
  • Please bring a chair.

Transform the following sentences into Active Voice.

  1. You are requested to come here.
  2. Let the boy be given toffee.
  3. Let the beggar be given food.
  4. You are requested to help your sister.
  5. Let an essay be written on population.
  6. Let all the passengers be checked properly.
  7. Let the water be boiled.
  8. Let the platform ticket be bought.
  9. Let the order be given.
  10. You are requested to keep silent in the hospital.
  11. Let the children not be beaten.
  12. Let a match not be played here.
  13. Let people not be arrested by the police.
  14. Let the letter not be written to your father.
  15. Let the poem not be learned by heart.
  16. You are requested not to waste your time.
  17. You are requested no to stand here.
  18. You are requested no to park your car on the road.
  19. You are requested no to laugh at anyone.
  20. You are requested no to drink alcohol.
