The entire question paper is divided into two sections- Section A and Section B.
- Section A will contain Prose, Poetry, Short Stories and the play The Merchant of Venice.
- Section B will contain General English/ Grammar/Composition Skills
Section- A- Marks 50
- Explanation with reference to the context (One passage from Prose and one stanza from poetry) – 8 + 8 = 16 marks.
- One short answer type question from prose (not to exceed 30 words) – 4 marks.
- Vocabulary (based on Prose text) – 4 marks.
- Central Idea of any one poem. – 6 marks.
- One long answer type question from The Merchant of Venice (Not to exceed 75 words) – 8 marks.
- Two short answer type questions from Short Stories (Not to exceed 30 words) – 4 + 4 = 8 marks.
- Figures of Speech. (a) Define any one of the following figures of speech with examples. 2 + 2 = 4 marks (Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Apostrophe, Oxymoron, Onomatopoeia, Hyperbole)
Section-B -Marks 50 (Grammar and Composition)
- Direct and Indirect Narration – 2 marks. (Out of two do anyone)
- Synthesis – 2 marks. (Out of two do anyone)
- Transformation – 2 marks. (Out of two do anyone)
- Syntax (Correction of sentences) – 1 + 1 = 2 marks. (Out of four do any two)
- Synonyms – 3 x 1 = 3 Marks.
- Antonyms – 3 x 1 = 3 Marks.
- Homophones – 1 + 1 = 2 Marks.
- One-word substitution – 3 x 1 = 3 Marks.
- Idioms and phrases – 3 x 1 = 3 Marks
- Translation: Hindi to English – 10 Marks.
- Essay Writing – 12 marks.
- Unseen Passage – 6 marks.
