Passive voice means that a subject is a recipient of a verb’s action. You may have learned that the passive voice is weak and incorrect, but it isn’t that simple. When used correctly and in moderation, the passive voice is fine.

In English grammar, verbs have five properties: voice, mood, tense, person, and number; here, we are concerned with voice. The two grammatical voices are active and passive.

Some basic rules to transform a sentence from Active Voice into Passive Voice.

Affirmative Sentence

Object+Will/Shall+Have+Been+Verb{3rd form of the verb}+By+Subject.

Examples-

  1. They will have eaten the mango.[Active voice.]
  • The mango will have been eaten by them.[Passive voice.]

While transferring a sentence into passive voice from active voice –

  • We exchange Subjects and Objects from each other.
  • We use Will/Shall+Have+Been as a helping verb in the future perfect tense and third form of verb.
  • We use the preposition By before Subject.[Subject of Active Voice]

Negative Sentence

Object+Will/Shall+Not+Have+Been+Verb{3rd form of the verb}+By+Subject

  1. They will have not eaten the mango.[Active voice.]
  • The mango will not have been eaten by them.[Passive voice.]

Interrogative Sentence

Will/Shall+Object+Not+Have+Been+Verb{3rd form of the verb}+By+Subject

  1. will they have eaten the mango?[Active voice.]
  • Will the mango have been eaten by them?[Passive voice.]

Main Interrogative Sentence

Question Word+Will/Shall+Object+Not+Have+Been+Verb{3rd form of the verb}+By+Subject.

  1. Why will they  have not eaten the mango?[Active voice.]
  • Why Will the mango not have been eaten by them?[Passive voice.]
  • If there is Who as a question word then-

By+Whom+Will/Shall+Object+Not+Have+Been+Verb{3rd form of the verb}

  1. Who will have eaten the mango?
  • By whom Will the mango have been eaten?

Transform the following sentences into Passive Voice.

  1. He will have bought a diamond watch from the mole.
  2. Suresh will have learnt his lesson properly.
  3. My brother will have completed his work by tomorrow.
  4. The children will have displeased the guest.
  5.  The chief guest will have delivered the speech at the end of the program.
  6. No one will have written an essay on pollution.
  7. People will not have cleaned their house before the festival.
  8. The gardener will not have plucked any flower in the morning.
  9. The examiner will not have seen his gadget.
  10. They will not have thrown the clean water.
  11. Will he not have written any letter to his father?
  12. Will the boys not have seen a lion?
  13. Shall we not have helped him in every difficulties?
  14. Will the children not have won the match?
  15. Will his mother not have called him to his village?
  16. Why will he not have learnt english?
  17. Who will have knocked on the door?
  18. How will his result have satisfied his father?
  19. What will have Meera cooked for the guests?
  20. Which boy will have won the first prize?

From passive voice to active voice.

We can transform a sentence from passive voice to active voice by just applying the below rules-

  • We exchange Subject and Object from each other .
  • If there is Will/Shall + Have + Been as a helping verb we use the verb according to the Future Perfect Tense.
  • We remove preposition By before Subject.

Examples-

Affirmative-

  1. The snake will have been killed by him.[Passive Voice.]
  • He will have killed the snake.[Active Voice.]

Negative-

  1. The snake will not have been killed by him.[Passive Voice.]
  • He  will not have killed the snake.[Active Voice.]

Interrogative-

  1. Will the snake not have been killed by him?[Passive Voice.]
  • Will he not have killed the snake?[Active Voice.]

Main Interrogative-

  1. Where will the snake have been killed by him?[Passive Voice.]
  • Where will he have killed the snake?[Active Voice.]

Exercise-1 Find out the sentences which are written in passive voice and write them in your notebook

By the end of next month, the new product will have been launched by the company. The product has been in development for the past year and has undergone extensive testing to ensure its quality and reliability. The marketing team has been working tirelessly to promote the product, creating a buzz and generating interest among potential customers. The product launch event has been planned with great care and attention to detail, including a keynote speech by the CEO, product demonstrations, and a social media campaign. The product will have been made available to customers on the day of the launch, and the sales team will be working hard to meet the demand. By the end of next month, the product will have been reviewed by industry experts and received positive feedback, establishing it as a market leader. The company will be proud of the successful launch and excited about the future potential of the new product.

  15. Will the child have been surprised by his birthday gift?
  16. Where will the prisoner have been sent by the government?
  17. Why will the boys not have been given toffees by the shopkeeper?
  18. How shall I have been known by your father?
  19. By whom will the chair have been broken?
  20. When will the thief have been arrested by the police?
